Picasso (1932)

Our dreams can express our wishes or simply the thoughts, images and feelings we experience when we are asleep. Some of them are good; others aren’t. Some might come true; others might never. In this collection of short stories about dreams, written by the students, all of them came true. Their short stories had to be written in about 180 words and had to end with the words: “ ... and he always believed in his dreams from that day on. ”

WHEN A DREAM COMES TRUE

Gerry and Susan had been married for five years and they always tried to have a baby, but this dream never came true. They went to a lot of doctors and all of them said that she could have a baby, but the chances were really small. However, they never gave up.
One day Gerry had a dream: he dreamed that he was carrying a baby and Susan was carrying another one; they were very beautiful and small. He had never seen his wife smiling like that.
When he woke up, he realized that it wasn’t true and he didn’t want to tell Susan about his dream to avoid upsetting her even more and went to work.
When he arrived home after work, Susan was waiting for him with an enormous smile on her face and gave him the good news:
-I’m pregnant with twins!!
This day was one of the happiest days is his life: the day that his dream came true and he always believed in his dreams from that day on.

While he was resting, he dreamed that the owner called him because he wanted Steve to replace a young guy who had given up a job in the agency.

The boy woke up very happy because it seemed to be real, but it was just one more dream that he had. Steve decided to rest a bit more. While Steve was resting, his phone rang and he quickly answered it . The owner of the agency was calling and told him that a guy, John, resigned from the job, and he was the next on the list.
His dream came true! It was like in his dream. He got the job in the agency and he always believed in his dream from that day on.

Was It Just A Dream?

A few months ago, at one weird night which was very cold for the summer, Robert decided to go to bed early. He was very tired after a long and exhausting day. After drinking his hot chocolate he went to sleep, but it took him a long time to fall asleep.
Some hours later, he dreamt that it would snow on the following day and he and his friends would go out and play with ice: they would make snow men and a snow war.
The next morning, when he woke up, it was colder than the day before. He went to the window and everything was white. It was snowing!!!
He went with friends to the Central Park. The lake was frozen and they went ice skating.
He couldn’t believe that his dream had come true and he always believed in his dreams from that day on.

THE MYSTERY OF THE PIANO

In a raining night, the great pianist Allan Owen had a weird dream. In the dream his piano was playing scary music alone. Allan decided to check what was happening. When he approached the piano, he woke up.
On the following day he had another surprise: the lid of his piano was open! He didn’t understand it, but he thought this was a coincidence.
But in the next night he had the same fantastic dream, and the next, next, next… too. He was scared, so scared that he wasn’t playing his instrument, his life.
Feeling rather uneasy, he went to a psychiatric hospital. The doctor said that he needed to play beautiful music before sleeping and so his problems would be finished.
At night he tried to do what the doctor said, but he couldn’t; he only played scary music. He was being controlled.
It was this way for some days… his life was terrible. Till a day when he discovered what his dream was about: a strange man called him and invited Allan to create a theme to a horror movie! Allan accepted it:”Ok, the music is already created!!”
No more scared of his dream, his life went back to normal, and he never had that problem again, and he always believed in his dream from that day on.

Some time later, Peter was relaxing in the sea, when his brothers asked him to play soccer. He accepted and was soon playing with his brothers. He threw many balls easily; everything was fine. My cousin, Guilherme, died of cancer in 1990. He was 6 years old and I never saw him, only in photos.
One day, my other cousin, Nicolas, had a dream. He dreamed that his brother Guilherme was alive and was wearing a t-shirt and white pants. They played, ate together and had fun. After some time, Guilherme said that he had to go. He left him and disappeared in his brother’s house.
When he woke up, he was very scared. He went to the kitchen to drink water when a person appeared by the kitchen door and walked to my cousin’s bedroom. He called his brother and ran to the “ghost” but when he arrived the “ghost” wasn’t there.
On the next day, Nicolas was very confused and he told his mother his dream. He had seen his brother alive with the same clothes that he had dreamed . She believed in his story and he always believed in his dreams from that day on.

THE WEIRDEST WEEK

My name is Rafaella, and this strange story happened with my brother. My brother and I have always loved animals, and we used to have a beautiful bird. His name was Chico Botini. He was green and yellow. He always sang and was very happy. We loved him, but Chico was already 3 years old, very old for a bird.
One night, my brother and I were watching TV when he fell asleep. After that I took him to his bedroom.
In the same night I was sleeping when I suddenly heard a loud scream. I ran into my brother’s room. He said to me that he dreamt that his teeth were falling down. He had the same dream during the whole week.
On Sunday, our mother called our names; she looked heavyhearted and showed us Chico. He was dead. We were absolutely shocked.
A few days later my brother explained to me that he was searching about dreams and found out that when you dream that your teeth are falling this means death. He thought that his odd dreams were an alert for the death of our bird, and he always believed in his dreams from that day on.

NOT JUST A DREAM

One day, Pedro, a 15-year-old guy, had an amazing and wonderful dream. In his dream he was in a rocket going to the moon with one guy that he didn’t know yet. During the trip he had the sensation that he was flying, because in space gravity is less than the gravity on Earth, and that was fantastic for him.
On the next day, he read an ad on the web. NASA needed a teen-astronaut, and he thought that it was a marvellous idea.
Pedro studied a lot, and he was really close to realize his dream of becoming an astronaut. He was sent to the final test in NASA, and he was really excited about that.
On the following day there was a letter for him from NASA. He was the new teen-astronaut of USA and he always believed in his dreams from that day on.

The tea and the family

My brother Pedro always tells me a story that happened with him when our mom discovered that she was pregnant with me.
This is the story:
One day, he came home after a party and he slept. So, he dreamt that he was drinking a cup of tea with their friends. It wasn’t a weird dream, but he dreamt of that for four days.
On the fourth day, he asked our father if he knew the meaning of the dream, while our mom was cooking delicious cookies for them. Our dad said that he needed to search the web for the meaning, because he didn’t know anything about that. So, my brother did it. On the web, he found out the meaning of ‘dream with tea’ and it was: your family will be increased.
On the next day, our mom said that she was feeling sick. Our dad took her to the hospital and the doctor said that she was pregnant. And he always believed in his dreams from that day on.

Charles’s dream

Charles is a happy child. He has a lovely family and studies in a great school.
One night, a few months ago, he had a weird dream! He dreamed that he was surrounded by bizarre people that used big rings in the ear, nose and in their tongues. Then he woke up scared and shouted out loud.
In the next morning he wasn’t with a big smile on his face as every day. He went to school, but didn’t talk with anyone: he decided to keep this secret and forget it.
A couple of months later Charles’ mother wanted to take a break from her work; so they traveled to a place where they had never been before. There they saw people with tattoos and pierced ears. At that moment the boy remembered everything and screamed: ‘It was just like in my dream!’. His mother said it was an Indian community and they were friendly. Doubtfully, the boy decided to take a risk and talk to them, and then they became friends. In the end, Charles liked that trip a lot, but could never explain how he predicted it and he always believed in his dreams from that day on.

Bad Dream

In 1973, when Charlie was seven, he lived with his grandparents in a beautiful and old farm. He lived there, because his parents had died in a terrible airplane accident in 1967, when Charlie was one.
In a calm and dark night, the little boy had a nightmare in which he thought he was talking with his parents in a white and brightly lit room. They said he would die soon.
On the next day, the boy woke up freaked out, but he didn’t tell anyone about his terrible nightmare. Charlie and his grandfather went to the city, as they always did, and they went to the cinema. The boy thought the film was interesting and they decided to see it, but they didn’t know the story of the film was very similar to his life, and the main actor died in a white and brightly lit room, like in his dream.
When he arrived home, his grandparents’ neighbors invited him to have lunch in their house. Charlie got really scared when he saw that one of the rooms was identical to the white room in his nightmare. He was very frightened and ran back to his house. On the next day he discovered that the house caught fire and all the people who were inside it died. And he always believes in his dreams from that day on.
